Sunday Gathering
Join us every Sunday night from 5pm in the Highlands Baptist Church building at 256 Old Hume Hwy, Mittagong.
What to Expect
Visiting a church for the very first time can be a little daunting, especially if you don’t know what to expect. It doesn’t have to be that way, especially if it’s The Fields you visit. Below you will find out a little about our Sunday evening gatherings so when you show up you aren’t immediately looking for an exit!
Each Sunday, The Fields meets in the Highlands Baptist Church building in Mittagong, with a service at 5pm to worship God. Our gatherings consist of worship through music, teaching from the Bible and connecting relationally with each other.
Arrival
If this is your first time at The Fields, it might be helpful to show up fifteen minutes early just to get acquainted and grab a coffee. There is plenty of off street parking in front of the church building, and 3 accessible parking spots right nest to the front door . As you walk toward the Church where we meet, you will notice a mix of people, hanging out and talking inside. Once inside, feel free to sit where you like, although the seats toward the front are really more comfortable!
The Fields is a relational church. The people are pretty casual and it’s common to see them wearing whatever is comfortable, so please do likewise and wear what ever you are comfortable in. You will also find that the people at The Fields are very open and approachable so be ready for a chat.
Children
If you have kids we have a fun program where kids can learn about God and build friendships with each other in a loving and safe environment. The kids currently join us for worship and then once a month they are taken to a separate space in the adjoining building for their lesson. Other weeks the kids are supervised by some of our young adults where they build relationships while enjoying time playing together. Children can then be collected after our teaching time and our final songs. While we have these things available, we love it when people all ages remain in the service, so they are very welcome to stay and listen to the preaching.
Gathering / Service
Each gathering starts with a welcome and prayer, followed by worship of God through music. The music is led by a band and includes a mix of contemporary songs and traditional hymns. After the music, someone will read from the bible and one of the pastors will provide teaching from that section of scripture. Typically, The Fields will work through a specific book of the Bible over several months. After the teaching time, we remember the sacrifice of Jesus by celebrating the Lord’s Supper (Communion) each week. All followers of Jesus are invited to participate in this regardless of what church you belong to. We then respond to God again through worship in song. The whole service lasts about an hour and twenty minutes. But please stay after to hang out!
Meals
On the fourth Sunday of each month, we share a meal together. Everybody is welcome to stay and enjoy dinner together.
That’s it! That’s what a weekly Sunday gathering looks like at The Fields.
